project life // week 1

week 1 completed!

i'm still aiming to finish and photograph these each sunday so i can share them on sunday afternoons here on the blog. i finished this too late on sunday to photograph it in good light so monday it was!

the photos: having 16 slots to fill weekly definitely does push me to take many more photos and photos of things i may not otherwise capture. i have been taking twice-weekly yoga classes and knew that if i wanted to document that in project life, i'd have to make time to shoot some pictures while on the mat. same with my green smoothie. i really just wanted to make it and drink it, but instead i forced myself to take pictures of it pre- and post-blending. to me, this is the magic of project life: the stopping to realize what daily life looks like and the drive to capture it in these pages.

the stuff: after years of scrapbooking and now with the amazingness of iphones and instagram, picture taking is my second nature. but the stuff-gathering is a habit i'll have to get into. the black and red label, from scott's current favorite espresso beans, was salvaged before it went into the recycling bin. i don't love the design but it is so a part of our life right now. other "stuff" are paper pieces i made, including my go-to green smoothie recipe and some names we've tossed around for baby o.

a detail to share: i wanted each week dated and for that date marker to be consistent throughout the year. i created simple strips that note the week and date range. these will go over photos or paper, but they'll always be the same font and size and they'll always be in the top left slot.

this wasn't necessarily the best week to start project life. scott was out of town seeing family (a bit too far for me to travel at this stage in the pregnancy) so there isn't much of him represented here. and worse, he took our laptop with him on the trip. it's where i edit all my photos and do design work, so that was no bueno. the pictures were edited with picmonkey.com which isn't ideal and lack of word processing software means i didn't do as much journaling as i'd like. but again: there is magic in the project life system. instead of waiting for better pictures or the right software or even free time, i stuck to my timeline and i got it done. i now have this week of life documented forever and i love that.

  1. this is awesome! you're making me really want to START. I have been using the excuse that I am waiting for a "kit", but that's silly. I'm starting tonight. Thanks for the inspo.

    1. welcome! i knew that if i didn't get every week done that exact week, i'd never stick with this. don't know if that will be do-able once the baby comes, but i'm forcing myself now :)

  2. Looks awesome! I like your idea for the date marker. It looks so simple to work in each week. And that picture of LA is so pretty. I'm hoping to get out there this year!
