project life // week 4

week 4 of project life and i finally think i'm getting a handle on this. i'm very process oriented and organized in work and my personal life and i've settled into a good rhythm for project life. i'll definitely be including a look at my personal process in a future post, but i can say that nailing it down has made this project much more enjoyable.

our week #4 // met my girlfriend, haewan, for brunch in the poolside cabanas at avalon beverly hills. though the week started out in the high 70s and incredibly sunny, it ended in rain so we warmed up with vietnamese on friday night. i worked a ton, gearing up for an event i produced in week 5.

the photos: two new types of shots included this week: a modified self portrait and an overhead shot. 90% of the photos you see of me are self portraits, but this (the fries on the left side) was one of the first i have used in project life where i purposely included my other hand in the shot. i feel like it takes it from a picture of food to a representation of me enjoying that food. somehow that slight shift feels more personal to me. umm, so yes, i went out to brunch and felt an entire order of fries was an appropriate side. worth it. i often take photos from above for tabletop spreads or of my feet, but little else. the overhead (scott in bed on the right side) is not an angle i normally shoot people from and love it here.

i mean, it's not revolutionary, but new takes on this project will help me keep it interesting, week after week.

the stuff: not much this week! scott headed out to his favorite local record store and i asked him to bring a business card back. i included it, along with the names of the four vinyl records he bought that day.

the journaling: still totally in love with the 3x4" cards for capturing little journaling snippets. this time: a quote from my yoga teacher and our order when we went out for vietnamese food.

a detail to share: this is the first time i've used an instagram without re-cropping it to fit a 3x4". i really loved this photo because it meant something to me personally. it totally captures the appearance and feeling of a place that is very much a part of my life right now. i tried using the original as a 4x6" photo, but the colors were too dark and it didn't work in the spread. so instead of nixing it, i used a smaller version. mounted on mint green cardstock it feels much lighter and actually gives the photo more focus than when i tried to blow it up. i just added a little label, but i'll use square instagrams again to allow for more journaling there too.

supplies: his & hers stamps by elise blaha cripe; becky higgins' design A photo pocket protectors; corner rounder by fiskers; fonts include HoneyScript, Jenna Sue and Bebas Neue.

  2. i really like your pictures this week (water, architecture, cacti, white triangle thingies)! so many good ones. lol at the fry one tho. i always want to do that and then feel like an idiot cause i'm usually sitting next to some hipster in a coffee shop ((so uncool)). living in eternal college has it's downsides.

    1. thank you! luckily in LA it's pretty common (and hipster approved) to take pictures of everything and anything. i remember life before iphones when people would stare at me, but not any more!
